With the 2019-2020 regular season of the NBA less than a month away, one of the focal points of the league will be the new and improved Los Angeles Lakers spearheaded by giants named Lebron James and Anthony Davis.
Having a relatively easier schedule as compared to the other LA team and even the majority of the league, it would be a lot easier for the Lakers to have a good command over the league, provided they are successful in finding the much required chemistry, that is.
Given the level of talent being assembled in the Western Conference, the window of getting along for James and the gang will be extremely small and a couple of bad slumps during the season could lead to a disastrous end.
It goes without saying how important of a role will James and Davis be playing in bringing the entire roster in sync. Thankfully, Lebron, who’s born to lead a team from the front has spoken about how he wants Davis to get a hold of the wheel, especially on the attack.
Davis however has also said that this season is going to be all about being an elite two-way player with his eyes set on the ‘Defensive Player of the Year’ award.
Having said that, ‘the Brow’ has admitted to being a quiet guy. In an interview with Ding in 2016, Davis admitted of being “real laid-back” and confessed that if he wanted his team, (the Pelicans) to succeed, he’d have to step out of his comfort zone.
But the 26-year-old has shown signs of leadership recently. In a conversation with Red Bull’s Peter Flax, Davis said that James and he “talk every day — about the team and our goals, what we want to do this year and what we want to accomplish, and breaking it down to the very smallest molecules.”
“I think two guys like us, we have a very good chance of doing something special,” he said.
Removing the idea of being inferior to someone else in your mind is supposed to be the first step towards stepping up and taking the lead.
For Davis to open up and demand expectations from James on the defensive end (something the 34-year-old let loose on last season) is exactly what the prestigious franchise requires out of the Kentucky product.
